Top neighborhoods in Bilbao

Abando
Abando combines Bilbao's business buzz with cultural treasures like the Guggenheim and Fine Arts Museums. Stroll through Plaza Moyua to soak up the neighborhood's blend of modern glass towers and traditional Basque architecture. Riverfront paths invite leisurely walks while the bustling streets reveal a vibrant art scene that captures the city's creative spirit. Dining options range from quick pintxo bars to upscale Basque restaurants perfect for both casual meals and business dinners. Getting around couldn't be easier with Moyua and Indautxu metro stations plus the main Abando railway terminal connecting you to Madrid and Barcelona. Most attractions are within walking distance of the area's contemporary hotels.

Casco Viejo
Discover the most colorful part of Bilbao, where you can explore historical churches like San Antón and San Nicolás, shop at Mercado de la Ribera, and enjoy local taverns. Easily accessible via Casco Viejo station and public elevators.

Indautxu
Indautxu combines Bilbao's financial muscle with surprisingly refined cultural touches. Sleek office buildings stand alongside elegant Belle Époque architecture while you stroll Gran Vía's upscale boutiques. The beautiful Doña Casilda Park leads you straight to the Fine Arts Museum where classical columns invite curious minds inside. Pintxo bars showcase authentic Basque flavors around every corner. Getting around couldn't be easier with three metro stations connecting you to Bilbao's highlights. Business travelers appreciate the luxury hotels with executive perks, while culture seekers enjoy being steps away from concert halls and museums. The neighborhood balances professional polish with genuine Basque warmth.

Iralabarri
Iralabarri gives you a front-row seat to authentic Bilbao life without the tourist circus. This working-class neighborhood charms with narrow cobblestone streets winding uphill past cream-colored buildings with wrought-iron balconies. Traditional bars serve up delicious pintxos and local txakoli wine while neighbors chat in Euskera. Family-run pensions and budget-friendly guesthouses make staying here easy on your wallet. Metro Line 1 connects you to downtown attractions, though the steep terrain demands good walking shoes. The neighborhood quiets down early, perfect for travelers seeking genuine Basque culture without the late-night party scene.

Uribarri
Perched on a hillside, Uribarri rewards visitors with breathtaking panoramas of Bilbao from Etxebarria Park. This authentic Basque neighborhood feels wonderfully removed from tourist crowds, with tree-lined streets, traditional architecture, and local pintxos bars serving regional specialties at neighborhood prices. Monte Artxanda offers peaceful nature escapes just steps from urban life. Getting around is straightforward with Metro Bilbao's Line 1 running frequently, though the steep terrain makes for challenging but scenic walks. Accommodation options are primarily local guesthouses and apartments that cost less than downtown stays while providing genuine cultural experiences.

Bilbao and related destinations
Transformed by the gleaming titanium curves of the Guggenheim Museum, this once-industrial city now pulses with artistic energy. Wander the medieval streets of Casco Viejo for pintxos bars where tiny culinary masterpieces line countertops like edible art. The Bilbao Fine Arts Museum offers a more traditional but equally impressive collection. Take the funicular to Mount Artxanda for panoramic views that reveal how the city nestles perfectly between green mountains and the winding Nervión River. The Itsasmuseum celebrates maritime heritage, while the Arriaga Theater dazzles with Belle Époque splendor. Don't miss the Ribera Market, where Basque culinary traditions come alive among food stalls beneath stunning art deco architecture.

Mercure Bilbao Jardines De Albia
"Lovely location and and comfy bed what more can you ask for! Also they have on site parking if you have your car."
Hotel Melia Bilbao
"Everything was great! Especially during the annual festival week. They made sure that we knew of everything happening so that our experience could be a greater one."
Latroupe La Granja
"Stayed here with my husband and teenage daughter and was really pleasantly surprised. We booked a private room for 3 with our own private bathroom. It was very clean and the hostel itself is quite cool. Unfortunately we booked at the weekend of the Aste Nagusia festival and our room overlooked a square with a concert going on till 1 am. We were advised in advance but not at the time of booking so it was noisy. Nevertheless this is a great spot, very convenient location. We didn't have breakfast here as there's a wealth of great food places nearby"
Hotel ILUNION San Mamés
"Great location, nice room, comfy bed"
Occidental Bilbao
"Quite a wide choice on breakfast items Staff were friendly and helpful"
NYX Hotel Bilbao by Leonardo Hotels
"We love Leonardo properties. The staff excels in friendliness and communication. However....we need to talk about the glass box aka the shower and bathroom. Not sure if all the units are set this way but beware if traveling with family or partner. Some things should be kept private. Nothing is left to the imagination when your bathroom wall is glass, frosted yes, but you can still see everything happening in there. The plus was the location. Walkable, safe, busy in the day but still convenient to shops and restaurants. The rooftop was a nice little gem. We saw one of the best views"
Hesperia Bilbao
"This hotel was very comfortable and super convenient to all parts of Bilbao. The Old Town was a short walk away, and the art museums including the Guggenheim were very close. I liked the size of the room and a certain cheeriness the hotel had."
Hotel Miro
"The staff was very warm and friendly and spoke good English. Without my asking, they gave me a little booklet on a special festival happening that weekend, and when and where the events were happening including fireworks. I did not have a chance to have breakfast there due to early plane flight, but they offered to prepare a breakfast early the next morning for me--which was thoughtful. The room was clean and comfortable, with good lighting for reading."
The Artist Grand Hotel of Art
"Hermoso hotel. Muy bien ubicado. Personal super atento. Roof top con buenos tragos y hermosas vistas al museo. Cama y almohadas muy cómodas. Excelente opción para hospedaje en Bilbao."
