Beneath the Main Street bridge, the Damariscotta River delivers what locals call 'the best oysters in New England' to waterfront restaurants where shuckers work with practiced precision. The Twin Villages offer a perfect Maine day - browsing art at Jan Kilburn's watercolor gallery before exploring prehistoric shell middens left by indigenous peoples thousands of years ago. Paddle the tranquil river where osprey dive dramatically for fish, or time a visit for the Damariscotta Farmer's Market when tables groan with local produce. Stayed at the inn for a night while heading to Acadia. The pool was well kept with a garden.
They are renovating some parts of the inn which looks great. The room was spacious and clean.
Five Gables was amazing! My favorite part was waking up to the smell of brewed coffee and delightful smells of breakfast being baked and prepared! The location is beautiful, accommodations great and the food outstanding! Will TOTALLY be back again. I would highly recommend a stay!
If you’re looking for a quaint, charming B&B in a great little town along Maine’s coast, this is the place! The house, room, food, and neighborhood were all great!
We stayed in 7 different B&B's on our vacation and although they were all very nice, this was the best. From the road it's hard to get a feel for the Inn. The intriguing hand carved wood screen door signals something different is ahead. Once inside the beautiful post and beam construction and lovely decor impress and confirm you made the right choice. The owners have a great story that will make you feel envious that your not a wild Maine blueberry farmer with acres of maple trees for syrup...
A little slice of Heaven tucked away on a most peaceful and natural setting as can be imagined! Walking the grounds or exploring the natural bounty of the island can"t be more cathartic than this. Extremely comfortable beds and very clean rooms leave little to be desired if you are looking for that non plugged in experience. The stars at nite are what's showing and there is no intermission!!Chef Mario and crew are top notch , I've worked at the Ritz, and they perform w/o a hitch!
Wish I had...
The building is ‘basic hotel’ but nicely done, with a great view over the harbor. It might not satisfy a craving for luxury but there’s nothing to complain about except the turkey bacon!
We didn’t get to enjoy this hotel long enough! We arrived late and the front desk person called us to assure us he’s available even though the door was locked. Beautifully designed and so so comfortable and clean. My favourite was the towel warmer such a treat to get out the shower after a 5 hour drive and that roof view!
