Hotel Arce Baiona

"So many things to love! I arrived early, for I’d finished my Camino walk for the day. My room was ready, and they checked me in. (Not required, but delightful!). I needed to print new transport tags for my bags. (I’d tried early in the morning, at my previous hotel, to no avail.) They gladly printed them for me at no charge. The toiletries in the room were eco friendly & delightful. Additionally, the 2 complimentary bottles of water and the gel packs for your tired and achy legs and feet were a blessing. The morning breakfast was delicious, with wonderful & kind servers and service. Highly recommend this lovely treat just off the Camino!"

"Things I like about the hotel: The restaurant is exceptional. The breakfast while extra is good. The dinner is excellent. The food and desserts are some of the best I’ve had in Portugal. As a luso-American, I know the importance of complimenting your host’s wine, so I will say it is affordable, but I would appreciate different wine options such as one of the excellent Douro region wines or Porto. The staff is very friendly and kind. The location is also good. Areas for improvement: Having been to other four star hotels in Portugal, I have a certain expectation for the condition of the room. But I do not come from wealth, so I also try to be understanding. The hotel is mid-renovation, which is good because it is somewhat dated. The carpet in our room was stained near the door and there was damage on the lower portion of the walls. To be clear, this isn’t an un-nice hotel, but it did not meet my expectations for a four star hotel. The bar was unmanned every time we went in. However, we stayed there over the Republic Day holiday weekend, so there may have been a staffing shortage. Overall not a bad hotel, but it also does not meet my expectations for the price or star rating. A staffed bar and finishing the renovations would assuage my concerns."

"Wonderful place and grounds are beautiful. I had an attic room, it had a slant to deal with but other than that the break hasn’t and dinner were really nice . Would recommend. Not for kids. Close to bus lines and the celta stadium. A few parks close by which are really nice but a little more than 20 min walk."

"This place was beautiful and amazing. Wood floors, marble everywhere and a great swimming pool. I am so happy! The staff were friendly and warm. They seemed like family. The room was the perfect temperature, very comfortable and clean. There was an elevator. There were toys for our child. It was quiet and felt secluded. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. We could not have asked for more. The photos and reviews do not do the hotel justice."
