Mr. Ban runs a great guesthouse. If you're not vegetarian, get full board. It's a bit hard to find. Directions: Take bus from stop 1A at Nikko Train Station. Get off at stop 13. Walk up hill past Saitoh Dental Clinic. Walk to end of high stone wall on right. Continue past grassy area on right. A 2nd stone wall begins. Take right at first opening and bear right. Gasthof Ami is the big house at the far end.

Serene, beautiful, sacred area. 15 min walk into Nikko town, shrines, famous bridge, and 20 minute walk to both bus/train stations. Cottage is simple, warm, & comfy for those able to sleep futon-style. Bathroom, spacious and efficient. Small kitchenette: refrig, micro, teapot, toaster, dishes and utensils, clothes washer/dryer; no oven or cooktop....

Good spot. We had an all ages group and the teens loved having their very own rooms for a few days. The organization of the hotel was very thoughtful for both Japanese and English-speaking tourists. Eg long list of stuff you can borrow in case you forgot, tea and coffee always available in lobby, robes and slippers, laundry machines (which we didn’t try). Very convenient to buses and trains. Beautiful views of the mountains surrounding Nikko from our rooms.
