Jaldapara Binay Chapa Homestay
8/10 Good
"Good location for walking from/to train station and Jaldapara national park, and local bus services. Although I arrived before official check in and was happy to just leave my bag and return later, staff called the owner/manager who gave me my room early and was helpful & patient (using Google Translate to tell me where to visit). However he was never actually in the hotel area unless called & the other staff were unable to help me; it felt awkward when they summoned him each time when we could have used Translate. Rooms a good size & clean (bedsheet was marked, but had definitely been cleaned). No upper bedsheet provided. Bathroom was fine (western toilet). Ceiling fan very powerful. But having no mosquito net was a HUGE problem, especially as right behind my room was a pond/still water area. Also, as I imagine most visitors are in Madarihat for the safari, I was very surprised that it was not mentioned (or even on a sign) that they lock the hotel up at night. Normally hotels that do this ask guests their plans the night before or have a night guard on duty to unlock the door, but they did neither - it came as a shock to me that I couldn't leave on time, and I felt embarrassed & guilty to have to shout around the hotel in a panic, waking others, to find someone. Although it only took a couple of minutes it was really stressful - I was very worried I may miss my place on the safari as timings are very strict and had to hurry to get there in time after the mix-up."
