Yorkshire Air Museum is 1.4 mi (2.2 km) from central Elvington, why not stop by during your stay. Our travelers also like this historical area for its riverfront setting. If you want to experience more of the culture Elvington has to offer, head to York Maze, University of York, and McArthur Glen Designer Outlet.
While planning our trip to the UK, my daughter and I wanted to either stay at a Manor house or Castle. Middlethorpe Hall was the perfect choice. It is several miles outside York, but less than 10 minutes by uber or taxi.
The staff was gracious and solicitous. We arrived just in time for tea. The food was fantastic, generous, and the location in the the ball room facing the beautiful green lawn was exactly what we had hoped for.
Our room was not in the main house, but in another building...
hotel/bed and breakfast has nice friendly atmosphere, excellent breakfast, and is in walking distance of old town York. Only issue is limited parking in back, but they managed somehow by having cars that were leaving earlier closest to exit path. Helpful with things like where to get laundry done, where to go for meals, and unusual sites in old town that we would have never thought of. Will definitely stay there again.
Wonderful stay. Beautiful room and having the lounge was nice. The Honesty Bar was a particularly pleasant touch. Easy walking to Yorkminster and all the sights. I wish we had stayed longer!
We stayed three nights at the Rose and Crown in August 2016. We were welcomed by Johnny, the accommodations manager who immediately showed us to our room, and then helped us carry up our luggage. Room 3 looks out on the street, is clean and pleasant, and is just big enough for two! The bed is most comfortable, and the en-suite bath is large and modern. The entire staff here is warm and welcoming, the food is great, and the building is marvelous. The location is also perfect, just outside the...
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay. The owner, Fiona, was extremely nice and the breakfast was amazing. The property is beautiful, well maintained, and I loved the historical nature of the house. It is also in a good location, just far enough from the city. We would absolutely recommend the property and stay here again
Grays Court is a beautiful and truly unique place to stay in York. The staff were warm and friendly, the accommodations were full of historic character, and the gorgeous garden made the property feel especially peaceful.
The complimentary breakfast was delicious and incredibly generous. I enjoyed toast, tea, orange juice, and a full British breakfast.
The location is perfect for exploring historic York on foot. It is just steps from York Minster and within easy walking distance of the city’s...
Comfortable rooms with good coffee, Yorkshire tea, and great biscuits renewed every day. Excellent "bathroom" with spacious, easy to adjust shower and large heated towel rail, plus great complimentary toiletries, and lots of shelf space for our personal toiletries. One tiny grumble - the small bathroom fan in my room, switched with the bathroom light, was strangely noisy!
Very kind and helpful staff. Superb cooked-to-order breakfasts, plus cereals, yogurt, breads, etc. (but no fruit). The...
We loved staying here! The bed was so comfortable! The breakfast was great! Service was fabulous! It did not have an elevator and the kind man at the desk carried our bags up for us! That’s service!
Everything from beginning to end was perfect..The host was friendly and educted. And paid great attention to detail....plus the a free sherry in the room was just the icing on the cake .I would atay here again and again.
The property was located in a very nice little city outside of Edinburgh. It was only a short walk to the train to Edinburgh. Our host was very informative about things to do and see. The property was well maintained and very clean. I will stay there again if I ever get back to Edinburgh. A car is not necessary, which was wonderful. As an American who is not used to left hand driving on narrow lanes, I was happy to keep my rental car parked until we left for England.
Very nice room ("Guy Fawkes")- comfy bed, great bathroom. The hotel is nicely appointed, great, quirky interior decor. The location could not be better for attractions and dining.
One caveat- those with arthritis may find the doors a problem. The knobs are round, slick and somewhat difficult to turn. Plus, the doors are heavy.
Very convenient place to stay if visiting York. Two minute walk to the walled city. Nice, offstreet, parking at a very reasonable price. Staff couldn't be friendlier. Would definitely stay there again if we went back.
This is a very cute set of rooms in an excellent location for sightseeing in York. I liked being 15 min walk from the Minster and I recommend attending the 5:30 evensong there. It is therefore also a slightly shorter walk to an entrance to the town wall wall. In addition, it is just a very pretty 12 min walk to the train station. Breakfast was abundant, good quality and delicious. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was bright and clean. I recommend this bed and breakfast.
Waggon and Horses is a charming Bed and Breakfast. The rooms are located over a (200? 300? 500? year old) pub, although not *directly* over the pub so that there was no problem with sounds coming up from below. The room was comfortable with a good radiant heat and windows that opened for fresh air. The beds were comfortable and the ensuite clean and functional. The slanted beamed ceiling and overall charm of the room and building (and York itself) made us want to stay an extra night.
